Luke Jackson
Drafted: #10 Overall
VITALS: 6-7, 212,
Oregon
OVERVIEW: Jackson
played four years at Oregon, where he finished as the second-leading
scorer in school history. The Oregon native was named the Pac-10
Player of the Year after averaging 21.2 points and 7.2 rebounds as a
senior, helping lead the Ducks to the National Invitation Tournament
semifinals. Jackson is an adequate 3-point shooter who has a knack to
get to the basket. Jackson also possesses a long wingspan that
contributes to his excellent perimeter defense. His size, strength and
skills make him an intriguing prospect.
COMPARATIVE UPSIDE:
Mike Miller, Matt Harpring
COMPARATIVE DOWNSIDE:
Craig Ehlo, Brian Evans
ROLE PROJECTION:
Reserve, future starter.
POSITIVES: At times
this season, Jackson was nothing short of incredible. In the zone, he
was impossible to stop, nailing 3-pointers, floaters, put-backs and
pull-up jumpers. Even when his shot wasn't falling, Jackson's
versatility allowed him to be effective on a nightly basis. He boards,
dishes, hustles and bangs. The San Diego Padres even want him to pitch
as a southpaw in their farm system. How's that for versatility?
SHORTCOMINGS:
Competing at the wing position in the NBA, a player must have
quickness to create shots off the dribble. Although a solid athlete,
Jackson lacks star-quality explosiveness, so he is being viewed at
best as a third offensive option. |
