| From MOP Squad Sports Toronto Maple Leafs TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs signed newly acquired goaltender Andrew Raycroft to a three-year, $6-million contract Tuesday. Toronto got the 26-year-old goalie from Boston at the NHL draft last month in exchange for goalie prospect Tuukka Rask. The Calder Trophy winner as the NHL's top rookie in 2003-2004 when he posted a 2.05 goals-against average and .926 save percentage for the Bruins, Raycroft was inconsistent this past season, compiling a 3.72 GAA and a .879 save percentage He will earn $1.8 million next season, $2 million in 2007-08 and $2.2 million in 2008-09. Toronto declined to pick up the option on starting goalie Ed Belfour last week. The 41-year-old Belfour had a disappointing season with Toronto, compiling a 22-4-22 record with a 3.29 goals-against average. He missed the last portion of the season with a recurring back problem. |
