TORONTO -- Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells will have season-ending surgery Tuesday for a cyst and torn labrum in his left shoulder. Dr. James Andrews will operate in Birmingham, Ala. Toronto expects Wells to be ready for the start of spring training. Wells originally was to have the operation after the season, but the surgery was moved up to accommodate Andrews' schedule, the Blue Jays said Thursday. Wells hit .245 with 16 homers and 80 RBIs this year after signing a $126 million, seven-year contract extension through 2014. |
