TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays released right-hander Victor Zambrano on Monday.

The 31-year-old Zambrano appeared in eight games with Toronto, including two starts, this season, going 0-2 with a 10.97 ERA.

Zambrano, who signed as a free agent on Jan. 30, underwent Tommy John surgery for the second time last season but pitched well enough in spring training to earn a spot on Toronto's opening day roster.

Zambrano allowed eight runs and eight hits in 2 2-3 innings against Boston on May 8. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list two days later with a strained right forearm.

The native of Venezuela went 3-2 with a 7.40 ERA on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse before being released.
