The Eskimos acquired all-star cornerback Jordan Younger from the Toronto Argonauts on Friday for running back Tyler Ebell and receiver T.J. Acree.

Last week, the Eskimos acquired all-star defensive end Fred Perry from the Saskatchewan Roughriders for quarterback Steven Jyles. The clubs also exchanged second-round draft picks.

Edmonton has missed the CFL playoffs the last two years after winning the '05 Grey Cup.

The five-foot-10, 195-pound Younger spent the last four years with Toronto and was an East Division all-star three times and a CFL all-star twice. He played in 69 games with the Argos, registering 189 tackles, 11 interceptions and 31 knockdowns. He also helped the club win the Grey Cup in 2004.

"We are getting ourselves another proven commodity in the CFL," said Danny Maciocia, the Eskimos head coach and director of football operations. "We are getting ourselves another proven commodity in the CFL."

Younger's departure could result in the Argos giving former Western Mustang Leron Mitchell a shot at the starting spot in their veteran-laden secondary. The six-foot-one, 200-pound Mitchell has played primarily special teams the last two years but in December attended a workout with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

Ebell fills a need for Toronto, which had released veteran running backs John Avery and Robert Edwards in the off-season. Ebell led the Eskimos in rushing as a rookie in 2007, running for 650 yards on 124 carries and a TD. He started 11 games for Edmonton.

Acree is a three-year CFL veteran. He started nine games last season for Edmonton, registering a career-high 32 catches for 478 yards and three touchdowns. He joined the Eskimos as a free agent after spending two years with the B.C. Lions.

"This trade gives us a running back we feel will have a prosperous future in this league for many years to come," Argos head coach Rich Stubler said in a statement. "In Acree, we get a proven receiver who makes tough catches.

"In order to get these great players, we had to give up a great player in Jordan Younger who has been an all-star for us for many years. We wish him all the best in his future with the Eskimos."

The acquisition of Ebell might spell a return to Edmonton for Avery. The former NFL first-round draft pick began his CFL career with the Eskimos, rushing for 1,448 yards. He left to play for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings the following year, but returned to Canada in 2004 and signed with Toronto as a free agent.

Since Avery's release from Toronto, there's been persistent talk the Eskimos were interested in securing his services.

The Argos also re-signed veteran offensive tackle Jerome Davis on Friday.

Davis spent most of last year with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before rejoining the Argos prior to their East Division final showdown against Winnipeg. Toronto released him shortly afterwards, only to bring him back once again.

Prior to going to Hamilton, Davis spent two seasons (2005-2006) with the Argonauts, starting 30 games at right tackle and earning East Division all-star honours in 2006.

The Argos also signed defensive back Kenny Heatly, defensive end Seante Williams and defensive tackle Adrian Davis.
