Through two periods of play in Tampa, things were pretty even between the Flames and Lightning, with Tampa leading 1-0. Six minutes into the third period, however, the Flames were down 4-0, and wondering what went wrong. Of course, the referees, who called some dumb penalties against Tampa early in the game, decided that the third period would be a good time to even things up. The Lightning's first goal of the came just as a 5 on 3 powerplay was expiring, while their third goal came with another two man advantage. In theory, however, it could be said that the game ended when Tampa opened the scoring seven minutes into the game. Both teams had a 10-2 record in the postseason when scoring first, and the Lightning are now 11-2. Ruslan Fedotenko scored his tenth postseason goal when he got two whacks at a rebound in front of the net. While both teams had some great scoring chances throughout the first two periods, the two goaltenders were both outstanding, stopping everything that came their way. That's when the refs decided to hand the game to the Lightning on a silver platter. With the Flames starting the third period shorthanded, they were called for another dumb penalty by the clueless officiating crew. While they were able to kill off both penalties, Brad Richards scored from the front of the net before they could get their fifth man back into the play. Not long afterwards, Dan "Burning Down The House" Boyle scored from the point. The refs then decided to stick another couple Flames in the box, and Martin St Louis scored on a one timer froim Vincent Lecavlier. While the Flames finally got on the scoreboard some six minutes later, it wasn't nearly enough, as Ville Niemenen's powerplay marker stood up as the team's lone goal. After winning game 1 by a score of 4-1, the Flames found themselves on the other end of a 4-1 score last night. Now, with the series tied at one, the two teams head to Calgary for games 3 and 4, where the Flames will need to win on their home ice to be able to bring the Cup home.
