Northwestern beats Southern Methodist 66-55

EVANSTON, Ill. - Michael Thompson and Craig Moore each scored 14 points to lead Northwestern to a 66-55 win over Southern Methodist on Tuesday night.

John Shurna added 13 points for Northwestern (8-2), which never trailed in the game. The Wildcats led 28-22 at the half, despite shooting 40 percent from the field.

Southern Methodist (3-6) struggled with turnovers. Northwestern scored 22 points off 23 Mustang miscues.

The Wildcats pulled away early in the second half and put the game out of reach. Moore’s 3-pointer at the 17:15 mark pushed Northwestern’s lead to 38-27.

Moore, a senior guard, hit two more 3-pointers, including one with 10:41 to play that gave Northwestern a 58-38 lead, its biggest of the game.

Bamba Fall scored 14 points and Robert Nyakundi added 12, including four 3-pointers, for the Mustangs.
