RENO, Nev. -- Nevada forward Nick Fazekas said Friday has withdrawn his name from the NBA draft and will return for his senior season.
Fazekas said he made the decision because he got no assurances he would be picked in the first round.
"I thought it was a dream I was destined to do. I thought I was good enough to haven been higher in the draft," Fazekas said.
Fazekas said the last few months have been a learning experience and he hoped to "find ways to improve my stock and move up higher in the draft."
Fazekas said he worked out with NBA teams and the sessions taught him what he needs to do.
"I probably haven't put forth my greatest effort to be the best player I can be," he said. "I've got so many places I can improve."
The 6-foot-11 Fazekas, who was selected as a third-team All-American this season, entered the draft in April but said he wasn't hiring an agent so he could retain his eligibility if he wanted to return to school.
June 18 is the deadline to pull out of the June 28 draft.
Fazekas, who shoots well from the outside, finished 16th in the NCAA in scoring this past season averaging 21.8 points, and was 15th in rebounding with 10.4 per game.
Most pre-draft speculation had Fazekas as a late first-round or early second-round draft selection.
"He could go 25 to 30 if one of those teams down there like him," said Tony Ronzone, the Pistons' director of basketball operations/director of international scouting.
"More than likely he'll be second round. There's nothing wrong with him playing another year at Nevada. There's nothing wrong if he wants to go second round. Guys that went in the second round have had very good careers."
