CALGARY - Guard Scott Flory of the Montreal Alouettes is the CFL's top lineman for the second straight year.
The six-foot-four, 300-pound Flory received the honour at the CFL's awards banquet Thursday night.
Flory,
33, of Regina, is a five-time East Division nominee for the honour. The
University of Saskatchewan grad was part of a Montreal offensive line protecting an offence that led the CFL in scoring (33.3 points per
game), passing (288.4 yards per game) and total yards (390.3 per game).
The front wall did a nice job blocking for quarterback Antony
Calvillo, who completed 72 per cent of his passes and threw a CFL-high
26 TD strikes in leading Montreal to a league-best 15-3 record.
Calvillo was nominated for the league's outstanding player award for
the second straight year. The Als will face Saskatchewan in the Grey
Cup game Sunday.
Ben Archibald of the Calgary Stampeders was the other finalist for the
award. The six-foot-four, 318-pound Archibald recently finished his first full
season with the Stampeders and just his second overall. He stepped into
the starting lineup last year and helped Calgary lead the CFL
in rushing this season, averaging 129.7 yards per game.
Voting for the award was conducted by the Football Reporters of Canada and CFL head coaches.
