MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves signed first-round draft pick Randy Foye on Wednesday.

Foye, a 6-4 guard from Villanova, was the seventh overall selection and was acquired by the Wolves in a draft-night trade with the Portland Trail Blazers.

"We're extremely excited to have Randy as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves," Kevin McHale, the Timberwolves' vice president of basketball operations, said in a statement. "He is an exciting player that we believe can help us immediately, and will be a key player for us for years to come."

Foye, the 2005-06 Big East Player of the Year, led Villanova in scoring with 20.5 points per game and ranked second in rebounds (5.8 per game), assists (3.0 per game) and steals (1.2 per game) in his 33 starts as a senior.

He averaged 23.7 points per game in four NCAA Tournament contests and scored 29 in Villanova's win over Boston College in the round of 16.

Foye finished his career as the eighth leading scorer in Villanova history with 1,966 career points.
