Jaspers jump to early lead, cruise to victory

NEW YORK - Peter Mulligan scored 23 points and C.J. Anderson added 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead Manhattan to an 85-62 victory over Canisius on Thursday night.

Manhattan (14-12, 9-8 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) scored eight straight points to take a 15-11 lead, and the Jaspers were never caught.

Anderson, the freshman who capped the surge with a layup, finished with five assists, three blocks, and two steals in 32 minutes.

Darnell Wilson led Canisius (9-17, 7-10) with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

The Jaspers pulled away by scoring of 11 of the final 14 points in the first half. Another layup by Anderson made it 49-31 at the break.

Manhattan led by as many as 28, 83-55, on Justin Gatling's 3-pointer with 2:02 remaining.

The Jaspers were 7-for-20 from beyond the arc compared to 2 of 14 for Canisius. Manhattan also had a 44-33 rebounding margin.
