Week 19 Predictions

Last Week: 3-1
Season to Date: 46-22 (.676)
Well, my dream of finishing the season at .700 has been shattered, ruined by the Calgary Stampeders, and Tom Higgins' decision not to go for two with four minutes left, which lead to a 33-32 loss to the Montreal Alouettes last week. So now, like 6 of the CFL's 8 teams, I have nothing to play for in Week 19.
One of the teams that will be playing with a purpose this week is the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who host the Als on Friday nite. Montreal might have pulled off a road win in Calgary last week, but I don't expect lightning to strike twice--not when the Als are facing a team in need of a win, and not without Anthony Calvillo behind centre. I'm taking the Bombers.
The other team playing in pursuit of victory is the Toronto Argonauts, who, if Winnipeg beats Montreal, will need to beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday to finish first in the Eastern Division. The Argos face a much greater task than the Bombers, as they take on a tough team on the road. But while the Riders will want to put up a good showing for the Mosaic Stadium faithful going into their home playoff game next week, I highly doubt that running back Wes Cates will suit up, and QB Kerry Joseph, the surprise finalist for Most Outstanding Player, will likely see limited action. The Riders need a rest more than a win, so I'm going with Toronto.
After the two (somewhat) meaningful matchups start the week off in style, we then have the Toilet Bowl between Edmonton and Hamilton as the shit sandwich of a Saturday tripleheader. There has been a couple ties this season, but I have never picked a game without a winner, although I'm almost tempted to do so here. However, after Stefan LeFors' impressive performance in the Eskies' OT loss last week, I'm gonna give the nod to the Green and Gold. With a few games under his belt, LeFors will be a much better backup next season.
And finally, there's the late-nite game between the Calgary Stampeders and the BC Lions. Now, I wouldn't pick against the Stamps just because they let me down in Weeks 17 and 18, but I will pick against them because they're playing in BC Place. The Lions rarely lose at home, and are a dangerous tean no matter who's playing at quarterback. They're not only my pick in Week 19, but also my pick to repeat as Grey Cup champions on the 25th.
After failing to achieve his goal of finishing .700, CFL Editor Greg Harris will now be turning his attention to his other goal of seducing actress Holly Sampson, the star of the Emmanuelle 2000 series of adult films. But not until after he delivers his postseason picks in his final prediction column next week. Stay tuned, CFL fans...
