Week 17 Predictions

Last Week: 3-1
Season to Date: 40-20 (.666)

They say that all good things must come to an end, and for my streak of correctly-picked winners, that end came last Sunday, in the final game of Week 16.  And, fittingly enough, I was burned by picking against the Calgary Stampeders.  As it turns out, even with his (non-throwing) shoulder in a brace, Henry Burris can still throw for 400 yards and five touchdowns.  I shoulda known better.

Week 17 begins with a rematch of last week's Calgary-Winnipeg game, only this time, the two teams square off in the 'Peg.  Even though they're on the road, where they struggle to win games, I feel that the Stamps have gotten their mojo back with the return of their star QB.  Hell, if they can take 20 penalties and still win by 13, I think they can win one on the road, too.  Go Stamps!

Calgary-Winnipeg isn't the only rematch in Week 17.  In fact, every single game is a rematch from last week, where I went 3-1.  So, do I go with the same teams again this week?  Hmm...

I do like the Argos to beat the Als, even in Montreal.  The score was close in the first half of last week's game, but Toronto really pulled away in the second, and I feel that they're definitely the better squad.  The only team that Montreal has beaten in the last month was the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and even then, they only managed an eight-point win on home turf.  The HMCS Alouette is a sinking ship, and it will probably be submerged by the St. Lawrence come playoff time.

The Saturday nite BC-Edmonton rematch is a game that no one in Alberta will be watching, due to its direct scheduling conflict with the first installment of the NHL battle of Alberta between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames.  (I might change the channel between periods, but that's it.)  The Eskies did give the Lions a run for their money last week, but the end result was a six-point BC road win.  Points and victories are much harder for opposing teams to come by when they're in BC Place, so I think the Lions will win the rematch more handily than the first installment.

As for Hamilton and Saskatchewan, well, this one's another blowout.  Since Calgary beat Winnipeg last week, the Riders need one more win to clinch second place, which means that they won't go easy on the Tabbies, especially not in Regina.  Bring your daughter, bring your daughter, to the slaaaaauuuughter!
