TORONTO - Running back Arkee Whitlock, who rushed for over 100 yards
and scored two TDs as the Edmonton Eskimos clinched third place in the
West Division standings, was named the CFL's offensive player of the
week Tuesday.
Whitlock ran for 165 yards as the Eskimos beat the B.C. Lions 45-13
to clinch third in the West and was a unanimous selection for the
honour. Whitlock, Edmonton's nominee for the league's top rookie award,
finished the season with 1,293 yards rushing.
Saskatchewan
defensive end John Chick was named the top defensive player. He posted
a season-high six tackles and a sack as the Riders beat Calgary 30-14
on Saturday to clinch top spot in the West Division. Chick ended the
season with 11 sacks.
Montreal cornerback Mark Estelle was also considered.
Montreal kicker Damon Duval was a unanimous selection as top
special-teams player. Duval booted a club record-tying seven field
goals to lead the Alouettes past Toronto 42-17. Duval finished the
season with a league-record 242 points.
Saskatchewan slotback Andy Fantuz captured the top Canadian award.
The native of Chatham, Ont., had a career-high 12 catches for 123 yards
in the Riders' win over Calgary. Fantuz finished the season with a
career-best 67 receptions for 882 yards and four TDs despite only appearing
in 13 games.
Montreal cornerback Paul Woldu was the runner-up.
