COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Blue Jackets traded defenseman Adam McQuaid to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday for a fifth-round pick in next month's NHL draft.

McQuaid, 20, had nine goals and 22 assists in 65 games with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League this past season. Columbus' second pick in the 2005 draft, McQuaid has 18 goals and 58 assists in 246 career games, all with Sudbury.

The Bruins signed McQuaid to a multiyear contract.

"We were impressed with the way that he developed this season with Sudbury," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said. "He has size, strength, a good hockey sense, and he is a good defender."
