Miikka Kiprusoff never has two bad games in a row. Apparently, the Tampa Bay Lightning didn't get the memo. Coming off of a 4-1 loss in game 2, Saint Miikka blanked the Lightning in a 3-0 victory.

That being said, the Calgary defense definitely deserves some credit for the shutout, as Kiprusoff only faced 21 shots. In fact, the two teams set a new record low for shots in a period as they combined for a mere seven in the first.

While the first period wasn't very exciting, things really picked up in the second, as the Flames scored twice to take a commanding 2-0 lead. With six minutes left in the period, the Flames were awarded a powerplay after Shean Donovan was hauled down by Brad Lukowich. On the ensuing powerplay, Brad Richards had a glorious chance shorthanded, but was denied by Saint Miikka. The save proved to be crucial, as the Flames went back down the ice, and scored, as Chris Simon jammed the puck in on his third attempt.

Three minutes later, the Flames increased their lead on a goal by Shean Donovan. Vincent Lecavlier threw a blind centering pass out from behind the net, which was picked off by Donovan. The Flames had a 2-on-1 on the other end, but Donovan couldn't make the pass to Chuck Kobasew, so he shot it instead, hitting the top corner of the net.

The Flames would lead 2-0 for almost the entire third period, and added a third goal with another powerplay, with just a minute and a half remaining. Captain Jarome Iginla redirected a point shot from Robyn Regehr for his league-leading twelfth playoff goal.

With the win, the Flames have taken a 2-1 advantage in the series, with game 3 going on Monday night. In this postseason, they have always followed up a shutout with another win, so look for them to take a commanding 3-1 lead heading back into Tampa!
