If someone had given me a DVD featuring the story of a boxer who had had just seven professional fights, I probably wouldn’t have watched it. But the DVD I’m about to review here is different, because it focuses on the early career on one of British boxing’s brightest prospects.

Amir Khan: A Work In Progress takes a look at the first year of his professional career. Having won a silver medal in the Athens Olympics and avenged that defeat a few months later, Khan turned professional and immediately made an impact, winning his first professional fight in just over a minute.

This DVD shows highlights of the first seven fights of his pro career, as the youngster takes the first tentative steps and makes a dramatic impression in doing so, showing skills that would take other fighters years to obtain. It certainly makes for interesting viewing, as we see him dispatch a number of journeyman opponents, learning something new from each and every fight.

We also see how Khan is outside the ring. Despite his success, Khan has kept his feet firmly on the ground, still indulging in the odd kebab with his mates down the local take away.

Khan also speaks a great deal of his desire to become Britain’s youngest ever world boxing champion. His enthusiasm and desire is infectious, as many believe, including this writer, believe he will achieve this dream sooner rather than later.

In conclusion - Amir Khan: A Work In Progress is a very good buy, a very good look into the early career of a youngster who has the skills and desire to go all the way in the boxing world. My only criticism is that at just under an hour, it’s a little bit too short, and the extras don’t really amount up to much. An in-depth one-on-one interview of entire fights would have made great added attractions. But despite these shortcomings, this DVD comes highly recommended.
