BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Bruins hired Marc Habscheid as an assistant to new head coach Dave Lewis on Thursday.

Habscheid most recently served as an assistant coach on the 2006 Canadian Olympic team.

"Marc has a lot of experience and is a strong addition to our coaching staff," general manager Peter Chiarelli said. "He's worked with young players as both a coach in major junior hockey and with Hockey Canada's development teams, and he's worked with some of the top players in our league as a coach for Team Canada at both the world championships and with the Canadian Olympic team."

Habscheid, 43, coached junior hockey from 1996 to 2004, when he joined the Hockey Canada staff.

He was head coach of the Canadian teams that won a gold medal at the 2004 world championships and a silver medal at the 2005 world championships. Habscheid is the only person to have both played and coached for Canada in the world junior championships, the Olympics and the world championships.
