TUCSON, Ariz. - Jerryd Bayless scored 21 points, and No. 21 Arizona routed Fresno State 69-50 on Sunday for its fourth straight victory. Chase Budinger added 16 points and Jordan Hill finished with 15 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.

Arizona (7-2) played for the second time since coach Lute Olson announced he would extend his personal leave of absence through the end of the season. In the first game, Arizona spotted Illinois a 12-0 lead in Chicago before rallying for a 78-72 overtime victory.

Facing Fresno State in an early afternoon game, the Wildcats again started slowly, trailing 17-15 midway through the first half.

But Arizona responded with a 20-2 run to take a 35-19 halftime lead. Bayless fueled the spurt with three 3-pointers and a jam off an alley-oop pass from Nic Wise.

On the defensive end, Arizona limited Fresno State to 29.2 percent shooting in the first half. The Bulldogs had more turnovers (nine) than field goals (seven) and scored only two baskets in the final 11:39 of the first half.

The Wildcats put together a 10-5 surge after halftime to end any possibility of a Bulldogs rally.

Kevin Bell scored 12 points and Hector Hernandez had 11 for the Bulldogs (5-5), who dropped their second straight and fell to 1-4 on the road.

Arizona visits UNLV on Wednesday night. Fresno State plays host to Presbyterian on Thursday night.

Bayless, a freshman from Phoenix, is averaging a team-high 20 points per game and has led the Wildcats in scoring five times in his first nine college games.
